Tuning tools & ECU file formats
Every tool writes its reads a little differently. This is what we see arrive, what each format is, and what the tools on this site do with it. The converter and the identifier work on the file, not the tool - a full read is a full read whichever box produced it.
| Vendor | Tools | Files | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dimsport | New Genius, New Trasdata, Race Evo | .mpc, .dtf, .e2p, .dim (+ a .txt job sheet) | Bench and boot reads of Bosch EDC17 and Continental SID arrive here as a set: .mpc for the program flash, .e2p for the EEPROM, .dtf and .dim alongside them. The .txt names the plugin, the connection mode and the micro, e.g. TC1797. |
| Alientech | KESS3, KESSv2, K-TAG, Powergate | .bin, .ori | Plain binary reads. OBD, bench and boot depending on the ECU. |
| Magic Motorsport | Flex, MagicMotorsport Flex, Flexbox | .bin, project folders | OBD, bench and boot. Flex reads of EDC17 and SID ECUs are plain binaries once exported. |
| Autotuner | Autotuner bench/boot/OBD tool | .bin | Reads export as straight binaries, so the cal ID and engine serial read out the same way as any other full read. |
| EVC Electronic | WinOLS, OLS editor | .ols, .kp, exported .bin | WinOLS is the editor most of this catalog was organised in. A file saved through WinOLS carries an EVC watermark near the end of the image. |
| CMD | CMDflash | .bin | Bench, boot and OBD reads, exported as binaries. |
| Other flashers | PCMflash, Bitbox, Swiftec, MPPS, Galletto, Piasini, FGTech, ECM Titanium | .bin, .ori, .mod | All of these end up as a raw image. Anything that is a complete read of the ECU works with the identifier on this site. |
| Navistar | NavKal, ServiceMaxx, Navistar Engine Diagnostics | .nav.zenc, .cal, .xcal | The factory calibration channel for International and MaxxForce. NavKal containers are encrypted and compressed - the converter on this site turns a .nav.zenc straight into the flat .bin. |
What the tools here accept
The ZENC to BIN converter takes a NavKal .nav.zenc container and returns the flat binary you can open in WinOLS, Race Evo, ECM Titanium or any hex editor. The drop zone on the custom file service reads the calibration ID and the engine serial number out of whatever you attach - a Dimsport .mpc, a Flex or Autotuner .bin, a KESS3 .ori, or a NavKal container.
Engine serial numbers
Bosch EDC17 reads carry a 14-character MaxxForce engine serial in the calibration area, for example 125HM2Y4161321. The first three digits are the engine family: 125 and 126 on MaxxForce 13, 124K on the N13 and A26, with 152 and 106 also in use. Continental SID ECUs do not carry that field - they carry a 10-digit ECU serial and the Navistar, Continental and Siemens part numbers instead.
Platforms we hold stock files for
Bosch EDC17CV42, EDC17CV82 and EDC7 on MaxxForce 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, DT, N9, N10, N13 and A26; Continental/Siemens SID903, SID904, SID908, SID913 and SID914; and Caterpillar CT660, CT13 and CT15 built on the same hardware. Browse them on the platforms page or the full site index.
